Electronics can be a pain to store in your home. Whether you’re trying to hide the extension cord that’s poking out behind your television or find a place to store the household phone chargers, storing electronics and their components can be a hassle. In order to keep your electronic devices functioning safely and properly, the folks at Westway Electric Supply have put together a list of storage tips for homeowners.
- Office Space: Keep electronic devices such as printers, laptops, and computers off of carpeted flooring. They’ll be less of a fire or tripping hazard if they are stored on shelving or desk units.
- Hidden Tactics: Eliminate charger clutter by creating a charging station in a drawer. Drill holes into a desk drawer or bedside table. Then, attach a power strip to the underside of the drawer. Tuck your charging cords through the holes, and then plug them into the power strip. You can charge your devices and keep your chargers organized and out of sight!
- Mark It Up: Label cords under desks or behind entertainment units with tape. This way, if you need to remove a plug, you can easily find the one you are looking for without having to unplug everything.
- Electronic Bible: Electronics tend to come with a lot of paper work, whether it’s warranty information, safety information, or general instructions. Keep these information packets organized in binders for easy access. Organize the binder by room so that when you’re looking for the oven manual, you can simply flip to the “Kitchen” portion of your binder.
- Game On: Store items according to purpose. For instance, if your home entertainment system has various drawers or compartments, keep all of the gaming electronics in one drawer, all of the movies and DVD player components in another. This will make the entertainment area appear less cluttered, and make finding what you need easier.
- Battery Operated: Check the batteries in certain toys and remote devices twice a month. If you find the batteries are corroded, remove them and replace them immediately. To prevent corrosion, store these items in cool, dry places to prevent moisture damage.
- Cloud Data: Many people forget to consider their actual electronic storage, or the information stored on a computer’s hard drive or in the cloud. Backup your computer regularly to ensure your data’s safety.
